What are the benefits of PTToC radios v traditional digital/analogue radio systems?

Push to talk over cellular vs digital & analogue radio systems

PTToC/PoC (Push To Talk Over Cellular) radios are not restricted by range, as they operate via the cellular network and do not require an OFCOM licence. They can also run off Wi-Fi networks so you are no longer tied to the specific range of a traditional digital radio network. Many of today's PoC devices also have a multi function, being both a body camera, radio & mobile phone. This makes it much more practical for those who need all three on their person.

That's not to say that the traditional digital radio is dead - far from it. Depending on your geographical location and site environment/topography of the land sometimes it's still the best route to go old school. The first thing to check is your mobile network coverage.

We set up all our PoC devices with multi network SIM cards so that you stand the best chance of retaining coverage. If one network cell site goes down then your SIM will automatically divert to the next strongest one. We would always recommend an on site trial with both types of device so that we can determine in real time which solution works best.
