Why do my radios keep getting an engaged tone?

We explain why you may get an engaged tone on your two way radio.

There are a few reasons this will happen. The answer is simply the channel you are on is busy. However the causes of this aren't as straightforward.  Initially you would look at capacity: how many people are trying to talk at the same time on this channel?  Is this channel on a repeater?   Could it be that a piece of equipment is faulty or a user keeps pressing the PTT (Push To Talk)?   Once you know the above and if these aren't the causes of the issue, you might then look at some kind of interference.  Is there someone else using the same frequencies and in range that could interfere with your comms?  You might then need to check your license and setting and maybe change the type of license or way that the system is set up.  It's not always a case of it's worked for a long time and now it doesn't. There are often external factors that can impact this. There may be an issue with Ofcom licenses, sometimes they can over issue volumes within a single frequency which can cause problems.
